Summary of Main Ideas
Last year, I took my son camping in our backyard.
We set up the tent, roasted marshmallows, played the guitar, & had a great time.
At around 1AM, I woke up wet and cold. I was uncomfortable and irritated, as I moved my stuff around to find a dry spot.
This went on every 30-45 minutes until I realized what had happened:
I had set our tent up on top of the little ravine in our backyard. The worst possible spot. It had rained and our tent was essentially sitting in a creek.
To save face, I kept asking my son if he wanted to go inside, and his response every time I asked was “No dad, I want to stay with you.”
He would have rather been wet and cold and with me, than comfortable and dry inside without me.
We all have certain people in our lives that we are like this for. Maybe it’s a spouse or a best friend.
We all have passions in our lives that we see as worth sacrificing and suffering for.
The ask is simple. Who do you need to let know their importance? Who is it in your life that needs to know that you would rather be freezing cold and wet in a tent with them, than be snuggled up in a warm bed without them?
“The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, generous inside and out, true from start to finish.” John 1:14
“...He chose a hard life with God’s people rather than an opportunistic soft life of sin with the oppressors.” Hebrews 11:25
Who are the people in your life that you would rather suffer and be with, than not suffer and be without?
What gets you fired up? What would you suffer to maintain?
Who do you need to let know how much they mean to you?
